I have an Easynews account, and they have just increased retention. The latest
header retrieval downloaded 142,000+ messages to this group dating back to 2003.
I am a latecomer here, and found the group just about the time Conan the
Librarian left. I am gobsmacked by the amount of info posted here in the past.
I will be picking through those messages for info.

It is a shame so many folks have left. There are free Usenet accounts available
for text groups. It would be nice to lure some of those folks. back here.

Regards,
Roy

Howdy. My name is notbob. I'm a rank fly fishing noob. I left cuz
this group was populated mostly by a buncha snotty jerks. That it
died completely is hardly a surprise. You're the first post I've seen
in weeks. Maybe we can jump start it anew.

I've been unable to fish for 5 yrs, my time spent caring for my
alzheimer mom. Now I'm able to fish and live right next to the
headwaters of the Arkansas R, which has just been promoted to "gold"
status. I get my new waders this week and have been studiously
re-learning fly fishing. I can't wait. ;)

I have not fished much either, for quite a few years. But my wife and I just
bought a retirement home in the Smokies that has about a quarter mile of trout
stream on it. I intend to get back into fishing in general and prowling the
streams of Tennessee in the summer until we finally move there.

I wish you all the best on yer retirement. I'm also retired and
though I'm not much of a fisherman, I love to eat fish. I'm happy to
report my waders actually fit me, which was my biggest concern, me
being a big ol' fat geezer with duck feet. I was gonna try to fish,
today, but a freak snowstorm blew in. Now, I'm jes watching fly fishing
howto videos and drink'n some beer. ;)

Hey Roy,

Congrats on the retirement home. That is a beautiful place. I've fished streams up in the national park, what a breathtaking view. If you're anywhere near the park, there is a group of locals that can put you on the browns, just swing by the local fly shop.

I must disagree with notbob about the character of former roffians. The vast majority were extremely knowledgeable in a myriad of subjects and professions, fly fishing was just their special interest. If I recall correctly, notbob took up with Mike Connor--a very excitable fella-- or notbob was one of Mike's many sock puppets--no matter.

Nonetheless, many of the old guard--and I mean OLD!--have moved over to ROFF Facebook. Give Frank Reid a holler on Fb ROFF, to join in.
